Happy 52d Birthday to the ROK Marine Corps!

April 16, 2001 Republic of Korea Marine Corps (ROKMC) HQ had an event to mark the fifty-second birthday of the ROK Marine Corps. The ROK Commandant of the Marine Corps hosted this at the HQ on the large parade field. The event featured SPIE Rigged Marines (Dangling from HELOs with SMOKE on their heels!) parachutist, and excellent drill and ceremonies. They also had the Silent Drill Team show, sports events, (with old Marines and current active Marines). They split the teams for and made them half old timers and half current, active Marines. There sure was a lot of spirit in the older Marines. The ROKMC also has the slogan "Once a Marine, always a Marine." They really treat their former Marines well. Alot of famous former Marines attended to include the famous entertainer Mr. Kim, Hung Kuk.

Mr Yu, Wha Sun, President, Mr. Kang, Kyung Seo, Korean Director and US Director Mr. Jim Lint from the ROK/US Marine Corps Friendship Association were in attendance. They met with the President of the ROKMC Veterans Association, Oh, Yun Jil, Maj Gen (Ret). He was a very interesting individual who has a Ph.D in Political Science. His English was excellent and is a very entertaining speaker, whom members of the ROK/US Marine Corps Friendship Association ate lunch with.
Mr. Kang, K.S. also escorted ROKMC veterans from USA to include Mr. Kim, Yun Sik, President of the ROKMC Veterans Association of Maryland, USA. Several of his members closed businesses in USA for a week to fly to Korea to attend the ROKMC birthday. Most of the USA vets were successful businessmen living "the American dream" of small business. They were true examples of hard work.
